Prophet Amos Solar Eclipse over Nineveh

This is the solar eclipse seen over Nineveh on the morning of June 15, 763 BC at 9:55 AM. Amos lived at the time and location to witness the solar eclipse over Nineveh. Prophet Amos reminded Israel that God made this eclipse when he said: “declareth unto man what is his thought; that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth Jehovah, the God of host, is hs name” (Amos 4:13). It is this solar eclipse that Amos witnessed just prior to beginning his ministry. It is also this eclipse that he is referring to again in Amos 5:8 “Seek him that maketh the Pleiades and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night.”

The Prophet Amos was so impressed with the solar eclipse that he incorporated it into his end prophesies in Amos 5:20 “Shall not the day of Jehovah be darkness, and not light?”  And again in Amos 8:9 “It shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord Jehovah, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day.”   this Prophasy is very similar to the one given by Jesus in Mark 13:24 “in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light.”
